The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was the only noise in Leo’s world, besides the steady beat of his heart. He’d spent the morning sketching on the beach, the salty air carrying the scent of freedom. Now, he sat on his porch swing, sipping lemonade. His exhibition had opened to rave reviews, and the collectors were already lining up.

A notification popped up on his laptop. He clicked on it, half-expecting to see another review. Instead, a photograph greeted him. A woman's ankle displayed a perfect rendering of his design. He laughed out loud.

He rubbed his chin thoughtfully, feeling the smooth skin of his cheek. It was a strange sensation, this. An unshakeable feeling of… belonging? He took another sip of lemonade.
